Learning The Basics
You don’t have to be 100% fluent just for one vacation but it is important to learn the basics of French. You might want to learn a few short sentences and learn all of the simple words since they will most likely be used the most. Understanding French is also very important too if you ever encounter a sentence you are unable to understand it may be the best to ask someone nearby who is fluent in both French and English to translate for you. Have some basic phrases ready such as, “How are you?”, “What time?”, and etc… If you are ever unsure of a question someone is asking you, never respond by saying yes or no because you don’t know what you may be getting yourself into.
Take Actual Courses
If you are really serious about learning French, taking online courses or even attending an actual class at a community college may be your best bet. there are plenty of great courses you can take online that will teach you the basics of French at a low cost. Many community colleges around your area provide courses that you can take and should take only 3-6 months to complete. It might be a little costly compared to online courses but it will be worth it in the long run. If you have any friends or family members who are fluent it may be best to ask them to teach you French face to face. Watching your favorite movies and T.V shows in French is also a very effective way to learn new or unheard of words, music can also work too if you prefer to listen to music.
Don’t always take it so seriously, you are a vacation and your main goal should be to relax and have fun. You should never worry about not being able to fit in when you are on vacation, and plus you are not the only one! You may even catch a few other tourists who are also on vacation who might need a little help as well.
